Swiss Family Treehouse Model

I ran across this on one of Mike Cozart's blogs.  Hope you don't mind me posting this, Mike.  You guys may be familiar with one of his other blogs, TomorrowLounge67.  He built this 1/8 scale model at the request of a friend who worked with him at Disney a while back.  It's a model of the Disneyland Swiss Family Treehouse of the late 70s.

This thing is one of the coolest looking scale models I have ever seen.  I worked on scale models at a few model shops years ago and ever since I've admired a good model every time I've seen one.  Excellent work, M.C.  More photos here.

The square grid marks 1" squares so you can see how small these pieces really are.

LEGO Disneyland

This is pretty impressive.  Click on the link see more of Disneyland made of Legos.  Look for details.  I love the old school Tomorrowland complete with PeopleMover.  Also they made some of the interior of Pirates!  Not bad.

Disneyland Skyway in Your Backyard?

I found these photos on Flickr.  I have yet to find the story behind it other than this a fully-functioning model of a Skyway-type ride in this person's backyard in San Diego.  Watch this thing in action here.  This video clip takes you on the miniature ride.  I imagine they strapped a digital camera to one of the gondolas.

Lesson learned:  If Disney rips out your favorite ride and gives you really lame excuses as to why they did it, build your own version behind your house.

One time a buddy of mine and I saw Marty Sklar at Epcot.  We went up to him and said, "we are backyard Imagineers".  He looked at us like we were nuts and said, "never heard of that. What does that mean?"...  "Uhhh well, you see, Marty, it's when kids like us make things at home that resemble what real Imagineers do in the parks."  He had a look on his face like, "oh brother".
